Mobile Walking experiment

This was a personal experiment, not an IoT product. I wanted a more useful way to measure indoor walks: a simple mobile view for pace and distance, without needing to remember a lap button while walking.

I paired an ESP8266 board with an inexpensive PIR motion sensor and a small buzzer. Passing the sensor started the timer and each later pass added a lap, which was sent to a browser app on my phone over WebSockets. I later added a temperature and humidity sensor, giving each walk a little more context.

A low-cost sensor trigger made lap timing hands-free.
Mobile Walking phone view
The phone view adds temperature and humidity to each walk.
